Is there any problem if the name on the air ticket is the same as that appears on ID card, but not the same on the passport, for example,

"Chan Tai Man" on the air ticket and on the ID card
"Chan Tai Man John" on the passport

As at the airport, the ground staff would only compare your passport against your air ticket BUT not your ID card... So the name on your air ticket should be the same as the one on your passport...
Looking at your situation, I would suggest you to call up the airlines for advice... And if necessary bring your air ticket while your passport to the airlines ticket office to change it...
However, but by the look of it... It shouldnt be much off a problem... As your name is still correct but without JOHN on the ticket... I would advice you also to present your ID card while checking in, so it can act as a prove if necessary...
BUT, I would still strongly recommend you to call the airlines for more information and to check if that would be problem... Personally, this doesnt looks like a big problem, as the family and given name is correct, only that one with and one without the English name...

need to be the same as PASSPORT

because airline staff will only look at your passport
instead of your ID card
coz ID card is not one of the travel documents outside HK
