2003
Prompt response to the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in Hong Kong is made. Actions include distributing 380,000 “Heart-to-Heart Cards” to the public to promote SARS prevention, packing 100,000 hygiene kids for giving to the elderly and the chronically-ill, giving 150,000 sets of protective suits for hospital supporting staff, and providing logistic support to isolation camps, etc.
Sharing experience of SARS response with members of the International Red Cross and the Red Cross Society of China.
The first large-scale district-wide community health education programme “5-Star Health 5-Star Home” is launched in Tai Po District, New Territories.

The Hong Kong Red Cross participates in the centenary celebration of the Red Cross Society of China.
The 2nd Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot extends its participation to include competing teams from the Philippines, Singapore and Mainland China.
The Margaret Trench Red Cross School is relocated from Sandy Bay, Hong Kong Island to the new school premises in Ngau Chi Wan, Kowloon.
2005
Implementing ISO9001/14001 Integrated Quality Environmental Management System in the Blood Transfusion Service
Organizing “Red Cross Red Crescent Tsunami Response Forum” of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, 40 national societies and related international agencies attended.
Jointly organising the “3rd International Humanitarian Law Moot Competition” with the International Committee of the Red Cross, law students of 11 universities from the East and Southeast Asia regions participated.
Ms Sylvia Fung was awarded with the “Florence Nightingale Award” in the very first nomination from Hong Kong.
Taking over the management of the “Hong Kong Bone Marrow Donor Registry” as from 1 September 2005.
Receiving record breaking donation of $620 million as at October 2005 for South Asia Tsunami emergency relief and rehabilitation works. Setting up field offices at Indonesia at Sri Lanka.
2006
The 4th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot (2006) was held on 18 March with participants from Faculty of Law of 14 universities in the Asia-Pacific Region. It has become the largest scale of mooting competition on international humanitarian law in the region. This year, the champion of the mooting competition was won by the University of Queensland, Australia.
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Red Cross Youth in 2006, a series of activities were organized this year, including a reunion of former members held on 12 March, a Launching Ceremony for “Humanitarian Service in Hong Kong” held on 7 May and the highlight program “Youth Power Youth Care” held on 19 November.
Led by rapid increase of youth membership, the total number of Hong Kong Red Cross members and volunteers had exceeded 20,000 persons.
