I have a one year old cocker spaniel that still pees on our carpet. We just had our carpet cleaned professionally and it was like $700. I as so afraid that my dad will get rid of him. I feel bad for my dog because he is so dumb, but I love the little dog!

There are a lot of reasons a dog will pee on your carpet:
Medical (Kidney stones, UTI)
Emotional (Separation anxiety, submissive urination)
Territorial (Marking their territory)

Because of your dog's age and breed I am betting your problem is Submissive Urination.

Submissive urination occurs most commonly in certain breeds especially cocker spaniels, and is more common in females. Dogs that exhibit this type of behavior typically squat or roll over and urinate as they greet their owners or strangers at the door. The behavior is really a gesture of appeasement. The problem is often temporary, occurring mainly during puppyhood and mostly occurring during the first year of the dog's life. If you can't wait until your pup has matured beyond the super-submissive stage, avoid making dominant gestures toward her. For example, when you greet your pup, don't look at, talk to or touch her. Give her a wide berth until you are seated, then allow her to approach at her own speed. A reverse dominance program can be employed, too, to build your dog's confidence. Do not use any harsh or confrontational training methods. Rather encourage your dog to do what you want using positive reinforcement. Allow her to eat without having to work for the food, pet her without her having to obey a command first, and to have a variety of toys available for her at all times. Finally, you might consider playing games that allow her to think she has won.

Under no circumstances should your pet be punished for soiling in the house … ever. All that will serve is to make your dog afraid of you, and probably make him start peeing more...

Good Luck

You need to go back to basics with your training- lots of praise when peeing outside & maybe a treat. Don't make a big fuss when it does it inside- pop it outside & use a proper cleaner- dogs can smell where they've peed before & will go there again if its not cleaned properly

You've got to make a deal here - you do something positive about training the dog in exchange for keeping it. If your parents get rid of the dog to the pound for example, it will be dead in 3 days. Surely you can give your dog a better fate than that?

Maybe you could offer crate training as a suggestion. This MAY train the dog to hold the bladder longer, assuming they don't want to pee where they sleep. This will also give the dog a safe place to be when no one is home to supervise.

The thought of crate training sounds intimidating to some people, but if you really focus on the goal it can be done in days or at the most a week or two.

When you are at home, keep a careful watch on him. If he shows any signs urinating, take him right outside. When you are not at home, put him in a crate so that he does not urinate on the carpets. Or, when you're away, lock him in a room with lots of newspaper, food and water.

put him in a cage to train him but put him in a cage that is just his size because then if he pees hell have to deal with it but you could either train him like that or bring him where ever you go and if your doing something where you cantbring your dog have your friend dog sit him
hope i helped:)

if you see him wee on the carpet, you scold him(not too mean, rather like a warning)for weeing on the carpet and teach him to wee or poo in a crate with newspaper.
i would say that it'll be real mean if your parents threw your dog away just like that, everybody makes mistakes right?

I can relate. My aunt has a dog, and it does the same thing. So they keep it outside and in the garage

Well, what I reccommend is that you don't give your cocker spaniel free run of the house. If any part of your house doesn't have carpet, put up baby gates and keep your cocker there. Take him outside more often as well. Also, a great training tool is a crate. If you can re-potty train your cocker using a crate, you might have more luck!
I hope that you don't get rid of your cocker, and I wish you luck!

my puppy had the same problem!
the vet told me that, how you trained him is every time he goes in the house, you have to stick his nose down in it and scold him then put him outside for about an hour, but if he goes outside, praise him and give him a treat!!!
P.S. cockers are soooooo cute i used 2 have 1 : >!!!
