Does it bother you if US soldiers are seen with AK-47?
During the heat of battle, you will use anything possible to stay alive. Not to mention an AK-47 can be a good choice if your M16 doesn't work or out of ammo.
Your not seeing americans with ak-47's, you are seeing iraqi soldiers who are operating along side the americans using ak-47's.
They wear the same cammie and operate together.
not many I would imagine, but in the heat of battle your weapon is out of ammo or broken an enemies weapon is your only solution.
Why does everyone think this weapon is a great one? it sucks! i have used it before it literally shakes as you shoot it! I have a hard enough time hitting a target with my m14 let alone a piece of crap that shakes! it is bulky, awkward and unbalanced, and reeks of steel and oil. try staying under a car for two hours and that is how it smells.
isn't it amazing how diogen whatever talks smack yet does not allow emails? coward....
AKs are cheap and plentiful (guns and ammo) in the Middle East. The biggest reason that people use them is that they have more stopping power than their American counterparts and they are indestructible… You can drop them in the sand, fill up the barrel with grit, coat the action in dirt and they will still fire. Much like the Grands of WWII. They will fire dirt and all. The biggest disadvantage is that their accuracy is no where near American standards. But when you are laying down suppression fire, accuracy is not your biggest concern. Cost is not an issue in the war zone, but looking at the prices yesterday; I could buy a RW AR-15 for about $1000 and a new AK was $345.
It's pretty reliable, there's a lot of ammo around for them to use, and a lot of those AKs are chopped down versions that are smaller and handier than M4s.
Probably just civilian contractors, not soldiers. Most U.S. troops use American rifles.
Alright let's set the record straight for those that obviously don't know- THE U.S. MILITARY DOES NOT USE THE AK47!!
The news footage you are seeing is Iraqi army troops on patrol with their American counterparts. The media shows whatever footage is available and a lot of the American units over there don't trust the media to tell the truth so they don't allow them to go out on patrol with them (I don't blame them), so the news crews go out on patrol with the Iraqi army. Yes, Iraq has an army, they go out on patrol and fight the insurgents just like the U.S. military. The Iraqi military still uses the AK47, RPK, and PKM because that's what's available to them.
So next time you watch the news and see "soldiers" carrying the AK47- look close at the uniforms and equipment and you will see they aren't U.S. soldiers!
As a side note: The AK47 is a very reliable, well-made weapon and during my contract work in Iraq I had the pleasure of carrying one, so I don't want to hear what an awful piece of crap it is- especially from some armchair cowboy!!
參考: 6 years active duty- U.S.M.C.
13 months private security contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Been there, done that- next!!
Never seen with AK-47. It was decommissioned back in 1960s.
US soldiers carry AKM, RPK, and (less) AK-74 because of their great reliability in the sands and firepower.
You omit the element defined precisely in the quoted checklist - a platoon of Marines with M4's can carry off 3 hundred Taliban with AK's. What area of greater suitable teamwork, marksmanship and tenacity are you lacking? At seven to one odds the Marines beat returned an attack and survived. They weren't overrun, and the Taliban attack subsequently failed. The M4 isn't designed to fireside 12 magazines of 30 rounds apiece continously. Many device weapons are actually not, the two, and the AK additionally can not sustain that fee of fire. Assuming a weapon can do so and intimating that a foreign places weapon designed in the 1940's is inherently greater suitable makes the vanity of the posters preparation in firearms obvious. it is basically a gun, it has it faults, and the calibers it is provided in are at the back of the circumstances. The AK became into meant for production in third worldwide countries to be utilized by potential of somewhat uneducated human beings. it somewhat is why it takes 3 hundred Taliban to attack 40 two Marines. confident, the U. S. military does have an open suggestions on the issue, that's why trials are scheduled to purpose present weapons off the shelf. it is likewise why particular Forces is figuring out to purchase a extensive volume of the FN SCAR. not the AK. it somewhat is a collectible curio - recover from it.
The new Iraqi army is equipped and uniformed like US troops however they are armed with old Iraqi weapons or those captured from insurgents thus you see what looks like US troops using AK-47's but is actually Iraqi troops fighting along side US troops. Hope this straightens out your confusion.
