Let me try:
Both Meursault and Sancerre are actually name of regions in France outside the Bordeaux region. Unlike Bordeaux, which is famous and well known by HK people with their reds, both of these “terroirs” are famous in producing fine quality white wine (well, Meursault also has some Pinot Noir production, not a whole lot). Different from Bordeaux , which normally use the name of the Chateau on their labels, these so called “regional wine” usually use the name of the appellations or villages as their names on the labels.
Meursault, is a town located in Cote de Beaune, south of Volnay and north of Puligny Montrachet. This place is filled with limestone, with a size of about 1090 acres.
The white wines from Meursault are among the finest white wines in France . It seems that white wine has always been grown in Meursault, as early as 1050. A third of the production in Meursault has a Premier Cru label and is of great quality. The best of the best are Les Perrières, Les Charmes, les Gouttes d'Or.
There are at least three appellations in Meursault area: Appellation Meursault Controlée, Appellation Meursault Premier Cru and Appellation Volnay-Santenots Premier Cru (produces red wine). Total production is about 2.5 million bottles per year. Mostly using Chardonnay as their primary grape.
Meursault wine is usually dry and mellow, has a nutty character with aroma of apple and almond.
Sancerre is a town (or village) in the eastern part of the Loire valley, southeast of Orléans. Almost the entire appellation lies on the left bank of the Loire , opposite Pouilly-Fumé. It is regarded as the spiritual home of Sauvignon Blanc, making wines of great purity and elegance. Some Pinot Noir is grown, making mostly light, easy to drink red wines such as rosé wines for quaffing, but at their best they can pass for those from neighboring Burgundy.
White Sancerre comes from the Sauvignon Blanc grape. This makes a semi-dry, fresh, fruity white with vegetable flavors. This goes well with most appetizers, as well as oysters and fish. Sauvignon Blanc should be served at around 52F and should be drunk within a few years. Sancerre white wine is more delicate than close-by Pouilly Fumé. Sancerre matures a little bit faster than its neighbor.
The rosé and red Sancerre are made from Pinot Noir, and therefore is pretty light and fruity. Flavors of violet and cherry are typical.
Sancerre is produced on 15 villages. The wines coming from Bué and Chavignol are the best, such as those from North-east of Bourges city, in the east part of the Loire Valley , on the left bank of the river
Sancerre is almost 5 times bigger than Meursault, about 5,400 acres total, annual production in the range of 16 million bottles. The wine produced here is dryer than those from Meursault, filled with aromas of grapefruit (and citrus) and white flowers, due to its high concentration of marl soil type.
Don't know if this is what you called "full details"??
