What stuff do I need to do for my new puppy and what can I do at home and what HAS to be done by a vet?

Vet check is most important for a puppy,it can run costly in the early days though.Do the essensials first.

I will tell you if you think you can afford a new puppy tehn you better be able to afford the correct vet care for the first year. Puppies are more expensive during their first year. If you haven't much money for vet care (which is a necessity) then maybe you should wait until you are more stable financially before you add a new puppy to your household.

The first year:
8-9 weeks first vaccination usually done by the breeder before the puppy goes to a new home if you bought from a responsible breeder or a reputable rescue/shelter.
12 -14 weeks second vaccination
16 -18 weeks third and final in the series
20 weeks or older rabies vaccination.

The vet should also do an exam and deworm at those visits. It is important for a vet to do this and not ot use OTC products. OTC products can be very dangerous and ineffective. Also a puppy can be harboring a problem that the owner is unaware of that a vet can detect. Puppies can develop problems quickly.

Way to many people try to economize and save a few bucks by giving vaccinations themselves or using oTC flea and deworming products and end up with very ill puppies even dead puppies.

you'll need:

2 bowls-one for water and one for food
a leash
a collar
a bed or crate
some food
some toys for it to chew on (trust me, it's either their toys, or your stuff)
Some rawhide for it to chew on (stregnthens teeth and such)

At home you need to put anything chewable way up high, and all food too. And make sure that you have one set place for your new puppy to learn to go to to eat, sleep, play and so on.

As far as the vet goes, everything that they do has to be done. They have to check and make sure that your pet doesn't have worms or rabies and that they don't get worms or rabies or distemper or any of those other diseases that doggies get that could cost them their life. IF you don't have a lot of money to spend on the vet, maybe you should wait a little longer before you get the puppy. They are a lot of responsibility and a lot of money.

Having a puppy is a huge responsibility, you've essentially adopted a child who can't speak or go to the bathroom inside (or just isn't allowed to). These are the things that you'll need for a new puppy:

1. A crate for the pup to sleep in.
2. Treats to help learn.
3. Leash.
4. Puppy food.
5. Water and food bowls.
6. A couple toys to chew on.
7. A collar and dog-tag with the pup's name/address.
8. Brush to curb shedding.
9. A "clean-up" spray that eliminates odors so the pup won't go to the bathroom in that spot again.
10. A "don't chew" spray like Bitter Apple.
11. Puppy shampoo for baths.

As far as what the puppy HAS to have at the vet, you need to ask them that. Depending on what type of puppy you have and how old they are, you'll have different needs. Most puppies have rounds of shots that they require or they'll get sick ALL the time and it will end up costing you and the puppy much more in the end.

If you don't have the money to take care of your new pet, you need to find it a new home. This is a very serious decision, and if you're not in the right place to take it on, don't make the puppy be the one who pays the price.

take her to the kennel and say you found her they will do a check up plus vaccinations,when they clearified that it does'nt have the chip yhen you can pay like $100ca and you can adopt her

Both the answers above are great and are very accurate. To help with costs you may want to look on Craigs list. I found my dog kennel on Craigs list for 1/3 the price it would have cost me to buy retail.

If you cannot take this puppy to a vet, then please call a rescue group! A puppy is expensive to keep - they have to eat, they need toys, and training, and they need a crate. You need to learn how to crate train the dog. And, you'll need to take care of all of the vet bills! Please be sure that you're ready for this large financial responsibility.

then you shouldnt have gotten a puppy. call the vet and tell them your irresponsible and bought a puppy without having the money to properly care for it. ask them how much the required vaccines are. you suck,
