prepositional verb 和 phrasal verb 有甚麼分別？ (10分)

其實在組合方面，phrasal verbs可以後隨preposition或adverb，但prepositional verbs就只可以後隨preposition。
而以下是根據【A University Grammar of English】說到它們的不同
Prepostional verb中的Preposition一定要在它的complement之前，如call on(visit：這是一個prepositional verb)和phrasal verb call up(summon) 為例：
They called on the man(對）　They called up the man(對)
They called on him(對)　　　They called up him（錯）
The called the man on（錯）　The called the man up（對）
They called him on(錯）　　　The called him up(對）
還有，prepositional verb容許副詞插在verb之後，而relative pronoun在preposition之後：
The called early on the man（對）　The called early up the man(錯）
The man on whom they called(對）　The man up whom they called(錯)
最後，若你查字典如call on, look at等prepositional verbs，本本字典都是說它們是phrasal verbs，可見prepositional verbs也只不過是phrasal verbs的一種，但卻有別於一般的phrasal verbs.
