A piece of wire is bent into two squares. If the wire is 80cm long and the ratio of the perimeters of the two squares is 1:4, find the length of side of each square.

Please show the steps. Thank You

let the side of smaller square be x. the peimeter of the smaller square will be 4x.

As the ratioa of perimeter of larger square is 1:4 to smaller square,
this means the perimeter of larger square is 4 times of the smaller square, therefore, the perimeter of larger square is 16x.

4x + 16x = 80
20x = 80
x = 4

Therefore the length of side of smaller square is 4(4) = 16cm
Therefore the length of side of larger square is 16(4)= 64 cm
