Turkey has a whole cast of vivid characters = 土耳其有一整班（演出）生動角色的演員陣容。cast = 演員陣容，班底 （當你看完一齣戲後，通常都會列出所有演員及所演的角色，你會見到 cast 這個字，香港人會稱之為「卡士」）， 在這情況下 cast 是collective noun，即是說它指一齣戲劇的所有演員（類似 staff 或 faculty 的用法）
文中把土耳其的歷史比喻為一齣戲，所以把土耳其的歷史人物比喻為戲中的角色。
