I do believe you are doing the test for ASTM F963 & CPSC 16CFR1303, is it correct?
For US, the requirement only apply to the surface coating materials such as paints, plastic coating, etc.
In you case, if the product tested is purely a Brass or Aluminum Alloy, it should not be subjected to the test. However, if there was any coating and/or surface finishing which can be scratched off, then it would be subjected to the test.
Please double check with the factory or manufacturer are there any additional substance used when making the Brass, as brass is a alloy with Al, Zine & Tin. May be there was some impurities inside the product and which was scratched from the surface for the test.
Or is it a Brass Color/ Al Color product and which is composed with different substance such as paint, pigment, solvent etc. Sometime the lead (Pb) would be leaved in them accidentially.
wish it can help you...!
