when 同 while有邊度唔同

1.) while 後的 verb ( 除了verb to be i.e. is, am, are ) 一定係 continuous tense
e.g. While he was doing homework, his brother knocked down.
I heard some strange noise while I was watching TV.
when 後的 verb 唔一定係 continuous tense
e.g. I did my homework when my parents slept.
When I was a child, I loved singing.

2) while 可以用在比較上 , when唔得　　
e.g. The diamond ring is expansive while the pen is cheap.
The train is faster while the bicycle is slower.

3) while 可以解為　although
e.g. While he failed in the exam, he still didn't give up.
when 可以解為' 考慮到' = considering that
e.g. You can buy a big house when you have enough money.

While 一 般 也 譯 作 「 當 」 ， 卻 沒 有 上 述 when 字 的 因 果 含 義 。 While 所 說 的 「 當 」 ， 一 般 持 續 一 段 時 間 ， 請 留 意 以 下 一 句 的 意 思 ： Doubts in his powers increased while a woman was being brought to him （ 一 個 女 人 正 被 帶 往 他 跟 前 ， 當 時 他 的 權 力 越 來 越 受 質 疑 ） 。 這 一 句 是 說 那 女 人 還 在 去 見 他 的 途 中 。

He was doing his homework when the telephone rang. when 字 顯 示 一 個 動 作 持 續 時 ， 另 一 動 作 突 然 發 生 。 」電 話 鈴 響 ， 和 做 家 庭 作 業 相 比 ， 為 時 較 短 ， 所 以 用 when 字 帶 出 。 While I was doing my homework, the telephone rang.

when (adv) - at what time (pron) - what or which time (noun) - the time or date

while (noun) - a period of time
