Nuclear fusion is the fusing up of light nucleii to form a heavy nucleus in which energy is released from the binding energy (the strong nuclear interaction) of the nucleons.

Chemical raction only invloves orbital electrons, but not nucleons. The energy released is much much less than that given by nuclear fusion.
