Ding Ding Candy
Talking of traditions, what does it remind you? For me, it reminds me of the clear, bell-like sounds that goes ding, ding, ding... from the tools of the Ding Ding candy. Regarding its tradition, Ding Ding candy has over 100 years of history. It first came from Guangdong province and becomes popular in the 60's. In traditional Ding Ding candy, the candy is shaped like a big lollipop and is stored in an iron box about the size of a school desk. It is broken into little pieces in different shapes with a tool like a hammer. While the original candy is ginger flavored, the newer Ding Ding candy comes in flavors like chocolate and mango. Not only do they taste not the same, the texture feels different too, may be due to a difference in ingredients.
At the mention of Ding Ding Candy, what comes up in your mind? I wonder if you have tried the maltose biscuits (crackers in American English). Ding Ding candy and maltose biscuits are like brothers. At most places where Ding Ding candy is sold, maltose biscuits are available also. Matlose is the sugar of malt and is rich in nutrition.
