Agree with above that Windows Media Player (WMP) comes with Windows is free and can be used right away.
HOWEVER, WMP does NOT always give the CORRECT track names as I experienced so far (eg. 張德蘭\鐳射精華特輯). WMP does not have a lot of options such as change the MP3 tag (eg. artist name, album, year, etc) and the sound volume of the MP3 files, etc....
I would like to recommend you try the CDex software. It has been there many years before WMP. IT IS FREE and it is small (below 2MB). Download links :-

It is very easy to use, all are graphical buttons. Just insert the music CD, click the [get album info] button and then click the [Extract CD to compress audio files MP3] button.
After a while, when you get familiarized, you can adjust a lot of MP3 options.
