1. In general for HSBC customers, 10-digit a/c is a savings a/c while 12-digit a/c is a current (i.e. checking) a/c.
2. No need to input the bank code at ATMs.
3. As mentioned in #1 above, either 10 digits or 12 digits are valid a/c nos. So, as long as the a/c is a valid HSBC a/c, you don't need to worry about the no. of digits.
4. What you did yesterday was correct, i.e. inputting all the 12 digits should be correct.
5. Please do not worry about the " $20 ". It can be transferred to your friend's a/c. Actually you can even transfer an amount down to cents such as $100.24 (one hundred dollars and 24 cents).
6. No handling charge is involved if you are using an ATM for transfer of money into another HSBC a/c. (Actually, you can also transfer money to Hang Seng bank a/c.)
