首先我們要明白home這字可作副詞用（其意多指回家，到家）；而home也可作名詞用，指屋企，而at home是片語，是指在家裏

【明報專訊】署名Sherry的讀者來電郵問，Is she home 和 Is she at home有何分別？又She is in, but is not at home是甚意思？

(1) Is she home (yet)? 指「她到家了
嗎？」
(2) Is she at home? 指「她在家嗎？」
(3) 但美國人有時也用home代替at home，例如：
Is Jack home?(不說Is Jack at home？)
傑克在家嗎？
Is anybody home?(或Anybody home?)
家裏有人嗎？
(4) 另外，at home也可解作「接待某人」，例如：
She is at home to her friends.
她在家中(準備)招呼朋友。
As he dressed for dinner his eye fell on a card announcing the "at home" of one of his own cousins.
他穿上禮服，準備用餐時，不經意地看到表哥發出的一張茶會請帖。(The Island Pharisees)
(5) 同理，not at home表示「不會客」，
例如：
I am not at home to anybody today.
我今天不接見任何人。(《新世紀英漢辭典》)
(6) 講了這麼多，Sherry所抄錄的She is in, but is not at home，意思便很清楚：
她在家，但不見客。


所以，若你的意思是“今天黃昏，我不回家吃晚飯”的話，就要寫“I won’t be (come) home for dinner this evening”，但若你的意思是說“今天黃昏，我不會在家裏吃晚飯”（即你會在屋企以外吃晚飯）的話，那你就要說“I won’t be at home for dinner this evening”，但通常大多數情況下，人都會說”I will not(won’t) come home for dinner this evening“

若你不是對家人說：”不回來吃晚飯”，而是對朋友說”今天你不回家吃晚飯”（即你可以和他們一起，那麼你就不要用come home，而要用go home，”I won't go home for dinner this evening”

我認為2才是對的，
因為第一句說I won't be home ,意思是[我不會是 家 in this evening]???!!!
第二句則說I won't be at home ,意思是[我不會在家 in this evening]…
總之第1句應該是錯的。
