If you want to buy a new car, go to a larger, reputable dealers.
All three brands make good, reliable cars. Now it depends on what kind of car you want and what your needs are, plus how much of a car you can afford.
If you are looking for a small sedan or coupe, the Honda Civic is better choice than Toyota Corolla because the new Corolla will come out in a year. Mid size, both Camry and Accord are good cars. Generally speaking, Honda has more "sporty" feel, while Toyota has more "luxury" and smoother ride. If you are looking for a small jeep, The RAV4 comes with V6 and is very powerful, but the Honda CRV doesn't come with V6. Both minivan offered by both brand (Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna) are the best in the market.
Lexus is in another league. They sell more luxury and more expensive vehicles than Toyota and Camry in the same category.

The best way to find out if a car is for you is to go for a test drive. Narrow down the model(s) per brand before you go to the dealer and drive it.

Used car is different. If you don't know much about car, go to a reputable dealership and look for a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) used car. They are a little more $ but come with warranty.You can check
www.kbb.com and look up the fair market price for the used cars.

Also ask for a report call "Carfax". It's a car history database showing if there's any issue with the particular car (look up by the 17-character unique Vehicle Identification Number).
