Hepatitis C is spread in a similar way as hepatitis B, mainly by blood contact, but it is not as common.

There is no vaccine available against hepatitis C. The general precautions against hepatitis C are the same as those against hepatitis B.

The vast majority of people who get hepatitis C are asymptomatic but become carriers for the rest of their lives.

To test for hepatitis C carriers, hepatitis C antibody is used.

In Hong Kong, it is estimated that 0.5% of the general population carry hepatitis C virus.

Like hepatitis B carriers, some hepatitis C carriers may develop chronic hepatitis, liver scarring or cancer.
