1. 100 cm^3 of 1.0M hydrochloric acid reacts with excess magnesium.
2. 50 cm^3 of 1.0M sulphuric acid reacts with excess magnesium .

1 & 2 experiment are carry out at same temperature 25 degree celcius.
show that they have the same volume of gas produced in each experiment.

1.
Mg + 2HCl → MgCl2 + H2
Mole ratio HCl : H2 = 2 : 1
No. of moles of HCl used = MV = 1 x (100/1000) = 0.100 mol
No. of moles of H2 formed = 0.100 x (1/2) = 0.0500 mol
Molar volume of H2 = 24 dm3
Volume of H2 formed = 0.0500 x 24 = 1.20 dm3

2.
Mg + H2SO4 → MgSO4 + H2
Mole ratio H2SO4 : H2 = 1 : 1
No. of moles of HCl used = MV = 1 x (50/1000) = 0.0500 mol
No. of moles of H2 formed = 0.0500 mol
Molar volume of H2 = 24 dm3
Volume of H2 formed = 0.0500 x 24 = 1.20 dm3

The same volume of H2 is produced.
