話說東村有一個媒婆，在徵婚告示上寫了一位黃花大閨女的資料：
It began with a Woman Matchmaker in the East Town who had placed an information of an untouched virgin on the marriage-seeking notice. It stated:

麻子沒有　頭髮黑　臉大　腳不大　好看
Pockmark NO
Hair DARK
Face BIG
Feet LITTLE
Good Looking

西村的王二麻子看了之後，心想：「我的機會終於來了。」
The Pockmark Wang from the West Town after reading the notice, thought to himself "My opportunity finally comes."

於是乎興高采烈的找了媒婆提了親，將這位美人迎娶回門。
Thus, he went to the Woman Matchmarker with excitement and proposed for the marriage with that untouched virgin.

之後，在洞房花燭夜看到了美人的「花容月貌」，不禁悲從中來，痛不欲生。
It was on the night of bridal chamber that Pockmark Wang had seen how "PRETTY" the untouched virgin was. There, he was totally lost with pain and even wished to die.

天一亮，拿著告示去找媒婆理論並想討回聘金，只見媒婆輕描淡寫的將告示唸了一遍：
Right on the next morning, taking the marriage-seeking notice on hand, he went to the Woman Matchmarker for complaint and would like to get back his money for the engagement; however, in return, he only got back the Woman Matchmarker reading the marriage-seeking notice to him once again in a causally way:

麻子　沒有頭髮　黑臉　大腳　不大好看
Pockmark
NO Hair
DARK Face
BIG Feet
LITTLE Good Looking

說：「自己討老婆不問清楚，我哪裡騙你？」
Afterwards she even said: "Hey, you see, is it you who looked for wife and not asked clearly. I didn't cheat you, did I? "

王二麻子，真是欲哭無淚。
At that time, Pockmark Wang had nothing to say and really wanted to cry.


說真, 這一句 "腳不大" 那個 "不大" 用 "FAIR", 到最後便成 " 大腳　不大好看 Feet FAIR Good Looking" 好像在英文上更好. 不過由於 fair 是指 "一般" 沒有小的意思. 所以最後我都是用了 little. 但你要知道..用little去形容feet 及 good looking 不是最好的用法.

還有 "花容月貌" 的直譯英文是 "fair as flower and beautiful as moon". 不過用這句太長太笨拙的感覺, 不能突出那相反的意思, 所以我用番最簡單的英文 "pretty". 這樣讀起來...感覺好一點. 還有這裡fair的意思可以是指"皮膚白哲的"的意思.

就這樣吧. ^_^

One matchmaker from east village putted the following information of a maiden in the marriage-seeking bulletin board:
Pock-marked no hair black face big feet big never good looking
Mr. “pock-marked” Wang II saw the board and thought: “Finally my day is coming.”
So he happily arranged a proposal through the matchmaker and took the maiden as his wife.
But when he saw his wife in the wedding night, he was depressed by her “beauty” and feel like dying for her unpleasant looking.
At the dawn of next day he couldn’t wait to come to the matchmaker for breaking off the marriage and asked his money gift back.
The matchmaker calmly read the marriage-seeking info again to him:
Pock-marked no hair black face big feet big never good looking

The matchmaker said slowly “you didn’t look before you leap and watch out the trick of no punctuation, it’s not my fault!”
Mr. “pock-marked” Wang II could do nothing but to swallow the big joke.

兩種文字的差異還是無法傳神地表達原文的絕妙之處

本來要翻成英文,可是效果會不見,因為英文的語法不同.

There is a woman matchmaker in east village, wrote a virgin unmarried young woman's materials in seeking marriage the notice:
There is not the pockmark The hair is black The face is big The foot is not big Goodlooking
After the second pockmark of king of the west village has seen, think: ' my chance came at last. ' the woman matchmaker of letting in high spirits as a result has withdrawn and kissed, is it answer to marry these beauty on the door.
Later, in wedding festivities see ' great beauty ' of beauty night, can't help sad to come from it, overwhelmed with sorrow.
It is bright , holding the notice to look for woman matchmaker's theory and want to ask for the betrothal money for the bride's family, the ones that only saw a woman matchmaker touch on lightly had read the notice once:
Pockmark Have no hair Black face Big foot Not very goodlooking
Say: Puts down the wife and does not make it clear by ' oneself, where do I deceive you? '
The king is second pockmark, is really too deep for tears.
