Two reasons u need to hit harder
1. the wall doesn't rebound the ball as powerful as a racket does.
2. the bounced balls come in slower than real game, and u need to hit harder to send the ball out at the same speed as in game.
Together, they make u waste much more energy to play a rally.
I practise with the wall a lot. and observed that some people on the next "wall" court were hitting really hard.
In a sense, it could develop a bad habbit of hitting too hard.
To avoid this, i'd hit the ball the same speed, the same way as in game or court practise. The bounced ball is weak and i let it bounce twice on the ground (if i stay near the baseline), before hitting again. Remember, the ball travels 1/2 distance in the wall court. So it is good to let it fly slower that you have enough time to recover and prepare for the next shot. This way, your Rhythm, your form and your power will be just the same as in game.
"Hitting wall" is a very good practise, many pros "hit a lot of wall" when they were kids. Boris Becker did !
