A4 is just the model line, just like BMW's 3 series, Mercedes Benz's C-class. A4 1.8T is one of the A4's model, like BMW 325i and MB C240.

Depends on which generation you are talking about, and I assume it's a B5 or B6 (because people will be 2.0T instead of 1.8T on B7), Audi A4 has non-turbo 1.6, 1.8, 2.8 and turbo 1.8T (hence, the "T" after 1.8).

For B5 1.8T, the car is relatively free of electronic issues. There's a large factory recall on the wastegate so you want to make sure it's functioning or else turbo boost will not build up and slow down the car very bad. Make sure the timing belt and water pump are changed every 90K km. Rear suspension is difficult and expensive to change, so when you test drive make sure the rear shocks still have enough rebound force or you may have to spend some money afterward to fix/upgrade it. Oh, get Quattro AWD if you want an Audi.
