Hi All,

Could anyone tell me what is direct expension in A/C unit? Thanks!

thx for your answer first. However, knowing that is the basic vapour compression cycle. Is that called "direct expension"? or any other way for vapour compression?

The dirert expansion is refer to the properties of the refrigerant.

In an A/C unit, there are four procedures involved in order to perform the cooling function. They are named: Compression, condensation, expansion and evaporation.

In the compression process, it is performed by the compressor in order to turn refrigerant (liquid form) into high pressure & high tmeperature state (gas form).

After the compression, the condensing unit, mostly the external fan, extracts heat of the heat refrigerant and turns it into high pressure & normal (room) temperature refrigerant.

When the high pressure & normal (room) temperature refrigerant is transported to the expansion valve, the expansion process conducted by one turns the refrigerant into low pressure low temperature. That means, the refrigerant becomes liquid.

The last process, evaporation, co-operates with the internal fan, the evaporator, by blowing cold liquid refrigerant operating in the cooling coil (located at the side facing the room needed to be cooled) and provides dry cold air for cooling.

At the end of the cooling coil, the refrigerant becomes vapour (gas state) again and gets into the compressor to complete the cycle.
