契娘,契姐,契妹的英文是甚麼?

其實沒有一個字可以完全表達契ｘｘ，但跟據古德明的講法，我們不防用nominal brothers, sisters等等；nominal這字是解「名義上的」，「有名無實的」，以下是引自「征服英語」的一段說話，可作參考

契 女 、 「 契 子 」 、 「 契 媽 」 、 「 契 爺 」 等 ， 英 文 叫 什 麼 ？
英 文 沒 有 「 契 爺 」 、 「 契 子 」 之 類 說 法 ， 只 有 類 似 的 godchildren （

育 ， 孩 子 有 困 難 時 也 會 給 他 援 手 。
梁 實 秋 的 《 最 新 實 用 漢 英 辭 典 》 把 契 父 母 譯 做 adoptive parents ， RH Mathews 的 《 麥 氏 漢 英 大 辭 典 》 也 把 契 子 女 譯 做 adopted children 。 但 adopt 其 實 是 「 收 養 」 ， 和 中 文 所 謂 「 契 」 意 思 不 同 。 翻 譯 「 契 女 」 等 ， 你 只 能 自 創 譯 名 ， 例 如 nominal parents （ 名 義 上 的 父 母 ） 、 nominal children （ 名 義 上 的 孩 子 ） 等 。 當 面 稱 呼 契 父 母 ， 則 不 妨 叫 Uncle Dad 、 Auntie Mom 等 。

i definitely would not call your 契娘 mother-in-law. mother-in-law is your husband's mom. i can't think of an equivalent in english. the terms 契娘,契姐,契妹 are a lot more casual. the only thing that comes to mind is godmother, godfather, godparents. godbrothers and godsisters are rarely used, but it's not unheard-of. the relationships between godparents and godchildren are pretty sacred in other culture. the godparents basically take responsibilities to raise their godchildren if anything happens to their biological parents.

僅就記憶所及，八十年代英國牛津出版社所出一書名《Words fail me》一章論及「catering cousins」，catering一字發音與中文契字接近，因疑此兩國文化中一端亦有淵源。惟此關學術嚴肅問題，非敝人可勝任者也。今日求教於雅虎知識，無意見有此問題，乃不揣淺陋作答，以期抛磚引玉，並正誤解近二十年。此書當年在屯門大興圖書館借閱，今日須由閣下自圖書館網上查閱。

英文係冇呢種關係
勉強可叫mother in law
好似外父,外母,姨仔
佢地唔係你親生
但結婚後法律上就係叫father in law, mother in law, sister in law
但就唔係叫mother in contract

而godfater,godmother,godparent
是天主教的教父,教母稱謂
但基於個別宗教
又不切合中國人的契娘,契姐,契妹關係
因為中國式和god沒任何關係
亦非在天主教儀式下見証
