因為
如果句子中有過去的時間詞，不論含有現在式，全句(動詞)就一定要用過去式。
如果把 today 和 yesterday 的次序調換，答案不會不同

yesterday(過去式) 的影響較today(現在式)大

如果以合適性來講，你描述的都是過去的事情，所以雖然是今天，但已發生，所以用 past tense 是對的:
There was no business transaction today and yesterday.
There was no business transaction today and yesterday.
