How can i know whether a reaction will occur or not between some substances? Please give me an example!
Rewrite the following equation as an ionic equation:
CaCO3(s)+2HCl(aq)----->CaCl2(aq)+CO2(g)+H2O(l)
(Hint:CaCO3(s) is insoluble in water.)

An reaction will occur or not depends on a lot of factors.
for example temperature, pressure, presence of catalyst.
1. temperature
eg. combustion: CH4 + 2O2 ----> CO2 + 2H2O
2. pressure
eg. hydrogenation of oil, alkene + H2 -----> alkane
3. presence of catalyst
eg. Contact Process: Vanadium(V) oxide

Chemical equation
CaCO3(s)+2HCl(aq)----->CaCl2(aq)+CO2(g)+H2O(l)
Ionic equation
CaCO3(s)+2H+(aq)----->Ca2+(aq)+CO2(g)+H2O(l)
