ionization defination??

Ionization occur when HCl dissolved in water
HCl -> H+ + Cl-

I want to ask whether ionization can only occur for covalent compounds.

For the ionic compounds, Sodium chloride
It dissolves immediately and produce sodium cation and chloride anion
Can we name this action as an ionization??

Forming sodium cation and chloride anion from sodium chloride can be considered as ionization, but it is also called the dissolution of NaCl in water. An ionic solid dissociates into its component ions as it dissolves.
Compounds with covalent bonds mean that the atoms in the compound share electrons with each other.
Ionization occurs for (strong) electrolytes, which are substances that exist as ions in a solution.
Strong acids and bases ionize or dissociate completely. For example,
NaOH --> Na+ + OH-
However, weak acids and bases only ionize partially.
