How can I get my two 1 year old male and female cats to not attack the 3-4weeks old kittens in the other room?

I keep them separate from eachother because I am not sure that they will get along.

Could either one attack them? Theyre both females I believe (the kittens)..and really cute=p The mom cat is usually but what if she isnt?

Some times the 1 year olds manage to escape and I saw the guy cat just staring into the cardboard box (in the study) where the mom/kittens are. Then he walks off. But the female cat (maybe you read my other recent question) and she kisses and growls.

Male cats have been known to kill kittens in order to bring the female back into heat, so keep him out of there until they are several weeks older. The female, I don't understand why she would attack if indeed that is what she is doing but if you're not certain then keep her out too. There is no way to stop it except by separation, they are just following nature's call. Give momma her own litter box and make sure her water is always fresh and keep the door closed. Be sure to let momma out of the room occasionally if she wants the exercise.

They might get along. Put 'em in a pit,and find out.

this is a natural behaviour for your cats, the kitten is testing his position in the family and you will notice as the kitten gets older that the older cat will start to reinforce her position to be more dominant and not allow the kitten as much leeway. We have a 14yr old male and an 18 month old female, the kitten will often try to attack the male (or our german shepard) when she wants to play, but if the male is not interested or has had enough he ends it by pinning down the female.

rmfly is absolutely correct. I have known of male cats killing a whole litter given the opportunity. It is not worth the risk. Keep them seperated for several more weeks.

you have to show that your older cat are the boss of the house but not the small one because they'll dink that you'll forget about them when u have the new kitty. When u feed them u have to show them which one is the older one or else the cats would get jealous and fight with the kitten

You should wait until they are a little older and then slowly expose them to the other cats. They will fight, that is certain, they probably won't hurt each other to much. It is just the way that the cats establish dominance. After a few weeks to a month they will have a sort of cast system set up and should stop most all of the fighting.

It's normal for cats who are new to each other not to get a long for a while. Try keeping them separate, but let them get used to each other with frequent, supervised visits. Cats know each other by smell. Don't punish them for following their territorial instincts by growling and hissing. just help them know it's okay that the other cats are sharing the house.

i adopted a 16 week old kitten when i put one of two of our cats to sleep due to an illness..charlie the then 11 year old cat hated the kitten(izzy) she would hiss at her slap her on the head..and all izzy wanted to do was play play play..but charlie had to let izzy know she was the boss and did so until about two weeks later when izzy had a surgery to get her claws removed and charlie had to get a tooth taken out..when i brought izzy back home the next day all charlie could do was clean her and sniff her...it was all good after that..charlie needed izzy..she is her friend..today almost two years later they are big pals..oh they still fight..and charlie shows her she is boss and then goes and lays down...

Keep them separate until they are big enough to defend themselves - the other cats will hurt them if they want to.
