I have read some articles about food safety in the newspapers. Poultry, fish, vegetables, pork and beef have been contaminated. Food is vital to us. If they are contaminated, our heath will be seriously affected. Thus, the government has immediately suspended their import from the Mainland.

these words are uncountable for sure: poultry, fish, pork, beef in their sense as meat.
They can't have -s in their endings. Import is also an uncountable noun. Food can be countable or uncountable.

Vegetables and newspapers seem can be countable in their context here, hence they have -s in their endings. You might need to talk to your teacher.

There is no foods safety but only food safety.)
