Culturally, nudity here in the US is not just about being nude, but being sexual as well..

Here is what the US culture teaches us about nudity and the conditioning this mainstream culture imposes upon us, and some consequences in totally believing and accepting the mainstream culture's values system.

Many men are turned on by nudity, connecting with sexual desires.

And while most men, and more as they mature through life, do not automatically make this connection, there are enough out men who do to make a woman afraid that some men will act upon these sexual desires.

Consider all those "Spring Break" commercials, Internet sites, and movies, where women are portrayed as sex symbols and Strong, muscular men are aggressively pursuing them..

It's enough for anyone to be scared of men, even when if one is a guy (like me!)

As far as being a male being nude, some men again misinterpret this a something sexual, and just want to show off their genitalia. And again, while most men, and more as they mature through life, do not automatically make this connection, there are enough out men who do to make a woman afraid.

I don't know if this all makes any sense, just some observations.

Women aren't necessarily afraid to view a man nude.
A woman, nude, is a "sex" symbol...literally. Gender roles are so strong, and nudity has become so oriented with sexuality, that of course men like to look at nude women.
For a woman, there is much less sexual connotation when looking at a male nude. A lot of women become embarassed, because they are taught from childhood that nudity is wrong.
