IGS is Instrument Guidence System, similar to ILS. Due to the landscape of Kai Tak, typical ILS can't be installed. Instead, "IGS" will guide aircraft towards "checker-board" till the Outer Marker. Then the crew must hand turn 30-40 degrees to land on Runway 13.
