I know nothing about brass, so sorry I cannot answer your 1st question.
For strings, you have raised three questions on common symbols appear on the score. Let me explain.
div. usually appears in non-solo pieces, e.g. orchestral pieces (symphonies...), and also you may see 2 or more notes there on the score. It means that the players divide the notes there among themselves, e.g. Player A plays the highest note, PLayer B plays the middle one......(vice versa).
multiple stop...you mean double stop? double stop means that you have to play 2 notes (probably) within 1 bow at the same time.
sul (?) appears when the players are asked to play the passage on a particular string. If you see sul G, that means you are required to play the melody on the G string.
