1a) By remainder theory,f(-2)= (-2)^4 - (-2)^3 +(-2)^2 +3(-2) -4
= 18
so the remainder is 18
1b) x^4 – x^3 + x^2 + 3x – 4 =0
(x-1)(x^3 + x + 4) = 0
(x-1) = 0 or (x^3 + x + 4) = 0
x= 1 or no solution
so x = 1
