腹膜炎治療難唔難

盲腸炎引發腹膜炎 reqiured operation to remove the appendix and clean up the 腹膜 (peritoneum)
Most of the time (after complete cleaning), use of antibiotic can control the 腹膜炎. It usually take several days for the abdominal pain (肚痛) to resolve but if the abdominal pain increased during the hospital stay, Dr may consider the needs for further workup.
In most severe cases, patient may develop multi-organ failure and death
The outcome depend on:
1) causes of 腹膜炎 - 盲腸炎引發腹膜炎 should have relatively low mortality (<5%)
2) Any bowel perforation - perforated bowel cause heavy soiling of the 腹膜 and cleaning will be more difficult
3) any hidden collection - sometime hidden collection of pus cannot be identifed during the operation and causing subsequent complications. This usually assoicated with higher mortality
4) patient's overall health condition - mortality is much higher for those with multiple underlying ill health eg diabetes, heart disease, lung disease etc
