1)the square of x is equal to 4 times the square of y . If x is 1 more than twice y,what is the value of x ?

2)in the xy-coordinate plane,lines l and q are perpendicular. If line l contains
the points (0,0) and (2,1), and line q contain the points (2,1)
and (0,t), what is the value of t?

3)a positive integer is said to be "tri- factorable" if it is the product
of three consecutive integers.How many positive integers
less than 1000 are tri-factorable?

1)
square of x is equal to 4 times the square of y, therefore x² = 4y² .........(1)
x is 1 more than twice y, therefore x - 1 = 2y, x=2y +1............................(2)
Substitute (2) into (1):
(2y +1)² = 4y²
4y² + 4y +1 =4y²
4y + 1 = 0
y = -1/4 ..................(3)

Substitute (3) into (2):
x = 2(-1/4) +1
x =1/2
Therefore, x = 1/2

2) slope of a line
= (difference between y-coordinates) / (difference between x- coordinates)
slope of line l = (1-0) / (2 -0) = 1/2
slope of line q = (t - 1) / (0-2) = (1 - t) /2

As line l & q are perpendicular,
(slope of line l) x (slope of line q) = -1
(1/2)(1 - t)/2 = -1
1-t = -4
t = 5
therefore, t = 5

3) let a positive integer z is the product of 3 consecutive integers y, (y + 1), (y+2)
z =y(y + 1)(y+2)
when y =1, z = 1 x 2 x 3 = 6 (<1000)
when y =2, z = 2 x 3 x 4 = 24 (<1000)
when y =3, z = 3 x 4 x 5 = 60 (<1000)
when y =4, z = 4 x 5 x 6 = 120 (<1000)
when y =5, z = 5 x 6 x 7 = 210 (<1000)
when y =6, z = 6 x 7 x 8 = 336 (<1000)
when y =7, z = 7 x 8 x 9 = 504 (<1000)
when y =8, z = 8 x 9 x 10 = 720 (<1000)
when y =9, z = 9 x 10 x 11 = 990 (<1000)
when y =10, z = 10 x 11 x 12 = 1320 (>1000)

therefore , there are 9 positive integers less than 1000 are tri-factorable
