did you go alone? 是用了simple pass tense這是用於指 一個行為or 行動(action) 在過去發生
而你的問題 were you going alone? 是用了 simple pass continue tense
這是用於指 一個行為or行動(action) 在過去一個特定的時刻or 一段特定的時段在發生
situation告訴了我們，
一個朋友剛剛從假期回來，
意思也就是說他的行動是過去式。
他已經完成了去旅行的action，
而我們要問的是，他是不是自己一個人去，
所以我們一定用simple pass tense.
如果是你在昨日的9點打電話給他，(是一個特定的時間)但是他沒有回覆，
所以你想問他是不是睡了, 你就可以用simple pass continue tense.

因為是在問有關那個moment的事，而且是在過去的時間中。
simple pass continue tense 大多用在陳述，而比較少用在問問題上。
