There are two types of JR West Rail Pass :
(1) Kansai Area Pass - validity from 1 day up to 4 days ($2,000yen to $6,000yen)
Pass holder can enjoy unlimited use of any standard trains and Haruka non-reserved seats within the corresponding area. The corresponding area includes Osaka(大阪), Tennoji(天王寺) and Kobe(神戸), Northern part of Kansai Areas as far as to Yamashina(山科-京都府), Hozukyo(保津峡-京都府), Kyoto(京都), Nara(奈良), Southern area as far as to Hineno(日根野), Kansai Airport and Himeji(姫路)

(2) Sanyo Area Pass - validity for 4 days or 8 days ($20,000yen - $30,000yen)
Pass holder can enjoy unlimited use of Haruka, Shinkansen(新幹線), and standard trains within the corresponding area. The corresponding area includes Osaka(大阪), Tennoji(天王寺) and Kobe(神戸), Southern area of Kansai as far as to Hineno(日根野), Kansai Airport, Himeji(姫路), Hakata(博多) and Shimonoseki(下関),

If you buy the Sanyo Area Pass, you can take Shinkansen(新幹線) for stations between Shin-Osaka(新大阪) and Hakata(博多)
