I think that is a difficult task.
In my opinion, you can keep the piece of bread in a jar,
and then bump sulphur dioxide gas into the jar(non-stop).
As I haven't took any revision,
I cannot give you explanations.
The only thing I can remember is that many factories use this gas to prevent the food to turn bad.
Another suggestion is to bump chlorine gas into the jar,
chlorine gas can get the bread dry and kill the bacteria on the bread.
The method is more reliable, and the bread can be kept for a longer time.
and Chlorine gas can be easily prepared by domestic way,
just mix chlorine bleach with alkalis such as toilet cleaner,
but one thing is that, chlorine gas is toxic.
And this gas can kills.
