In lightning strike, it is the voltage and current that give the damage. The voltage is caused by the intense electric field, and the voltage drives the current through an object that lead to the release of tremendous heat. There is actually no [force] involved.

Generally, energy is contained and delivered in a field. Like a mass in gravitational field or a charge in an electric field.
