交通工具狹義上指一切人造的用於人類代步或運輸的裝置。如:自行車,汽車,摩托車,火車,船隻及飛行器等。其中也包括馬車,牛車等動物驅動的移動設備,從這一點來說,轎子也可以算是交通工具。
因此,嚴格意義上騎馬並不算在使用交通工具,同樣一個人背著另一個人行走也不算使用交通工具。不過,廣義上來說,只要不是單純的使用自己身體的一部分實現移動,人們都可以說自己在使用交通工具。
