Black spots on my cats anus.?

Sounds like it could be the cat's anal glands - what they use to scent their poo with. They can become impacted, which can be quite uncomfortable. Happens more often in dogs.

Are these dots positioned at sort of 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock around the anus? If so, they are definitely his anal glands! A vet sort this out for him in consult, he shouldn't need an anaesthetic or anything.

Can I just say taking your animal to the vet if you have a question should NEVER be a last option. If you can't afford the animal you shouldn't have it - Yahoo Answers is NOT a substitute for a vets expertise!

Take a warm damp clean cloth or cotton wool and try to clean it off, often it will look like it's been there for weeks but each time they poop, they get a new lot. If it comes off, it's ok.

If not, he could have impacted anal glands which have abcessed and ruptured in which case he will need to go to the vet to have them treated, possibly removed and he will need to have antibiotics at least, if that is what the problem is.

Another thing it may be is worms or their eggs and he will need a treatment for that too. It's best to consult a vet for that as some cats can have fatal reactions to over the counter wormers.

One last thing, it could be like Stud Tail or Feline acne, it is usually black spots like flea poop.. male cats usually get it because they are getting pee on their tail and the urine and proteins clog the pores, it's a bit like blackheads on humans. You can treat it, you need to get a special medicated shampoo from the vets and just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get infected.

This could be nothing at all. It is normal to see some kind of stuff on a tush of a cat. Lets face it, they don't make kitty charmin. If your noticing an odor though, that is not good. Try to take a wet cloth, cat wipe, or anything else that will NOT upset your cat stomach, and wipe the tush off. Just to make sure it is not just some left over Poop. If the odor remains you should check it out with your Vet. Just to be on the safe side.

First of all, take a baby wipe and try to wipe your cat's butt. He will not like it, but you need to check if this is dried poo. Give it a soft rub, but insist because dried poo is hard to detach. If it is not dry poo, I don't know what it is and if you should worry. Maybe call the vet before taking the cat in, and ask if he thinks this is something to worry about. Also ask how much it would cost - I know my vet wouldn't charge me if it was nothing and he just had a look at my cat's butt!
