形容詞一問-3-

hard 可以是形容詞，也可以是副詞，而 hardly 只可以用作副詞。用作副詞的時候，hard 和 hardly 的分別很大。

Hard 作為形容詞的時候，大致的意思可分﹕
1) 堅固的、堅硬的
As hard as steel

2) 困難的、辛苦的
This is a hard question.
It is hard work for him to earn a living for his family.
It is hard to believe that she drew the picture by herself.

3) 努力的
He is a hard worker.


Hard 作為副詞時，一般指﹕
1) 努力地、認真地
If you want to pass your examination, you must study hard.

2) 用力地、嚴重地
Many companies in Hong Kong were hit hard during the economic recession.


Hardly 指 " 幾乎沒有 " ，意思與用法與 hard 有很大分別。
e.g. I have hardly any money left.

所以，形容詞 hard 的直屬副詞也是 hard ，與副詞 hardly 截然不同。

Both hard and hardly are adverbs.
