From Gatwick Airport to London... You have 3 main options which is Gatwick Express train, NationalExpress coach or First Capital Connect (ex-Thameslink) train services...
For Gatwick Express and NationalExpress, they will bring you to Victoria where you can take the direct Underground services from Victoria to King's Cross... Gatwick Express will take you around 30minutes while NationalExpress will take 2hours... And their cost will be GBP26 for Gatwick Express return and GBP12.6 for NationalExpress return... And the tube (Victoria Line) will take approximately 15minutes to King's Cross...
Then for First Capital Connect (ex-Thameslink), they will bring you to King's Cross Thameslink Train Station which is just a street from King's Cross Railway/Tube Station... The First Capital train will take you approximately 45minutes and will cost you GBP9 per way...
For timetable/fares/booking, you can visit
www.gatwickexpress.com for Gatwick Express,
www.nationalexpress.com for NationalExpress and finally
www.nationalrail.co.uk for First Capital Connect... And if you are planning to take the first 2 option, you can get a Oyster Card (similar to Octopus in Hong Kong) which will cost you GBP13 (GBP3 deposite, GBP10 credit) and will do a refund at the end, and at the same time, it is cheaper to use a Oyster Card than buying paper ticket...
If you are planning to get to Russell Square... You can change for the Piccadilly Line at King's Cross and it is just 1 station to Russell Square...
Looking at that, the best alternative for you is to take the First Capital Connect which will bring you directly to King's Cross... And the First Capital Connect bring you right to King's Cross with no change, and also a relatively cheap option for you as well, and last of all it is the fastest option which is even faster than Gatwick Express...
