Jacques Romain Georges Brel (April 8, 1929 – October 9, 1978) was a legendary Belgian French-speaking singer-songwriter, considered by many as a poet as well given the quality and evocative power of his lyrics. Known in the English-speaking world mainly through translations of his songs, he is also remembered in French-speaking countries as an actor and director.

"Ne me quitte pas" (Don't Leave Me) is Brel's most famous torch song, in which he uses exquisite imagery to press his suit with a girl who has already left him, descending in the end into abject desperation as he struggles to maintain a link, any link at all, with the object of his love. Frank Sinatra was moved to sing an English version of this song ("If you go away"), which unfortunately doesn't do justice to the stunning poetry of the French original. This is my favorite song of the entire Jacques Brel repertoire because of the power and the haunting beauty of the lyrics, Brel's impassioned voice and the evocative music!

歌詞真的很美，最喜歡那句 Des perles de pluie 珍珠般的雨點。 現在的男性還會懂得這樣甜言蜜語嗎？真是死人。不過家長們應提防女兒遇到這些口甜舌滑的男子，做老公的還是老老實實的好。

歌詞就很好，曲 OK，但嫌 JACQUES BREL 太木獨，無乜表情。而相反那個. Edyta Gorniak 波蘭女歌手就好得多，雖然全人類都唔識波蘭文，但看到她演譯一定好感動。還有那些嘆氣音和 K 音 （東歐語文好多），好能演譯這歌，正好多。相信女士演譯又特別吸引人，不論男女。

至於那個鄰居，聽到我心跳，幸好未斷氣。覺得是時候肥，但勇氣可加，搞笑成份居多。的確做到心怦的效果，也是作者原意，但英文歌詞不能和法文原文相比。

最後是鋼琴，想起 CHOPIN 的 FANTAISIE IMPROMPTU，好有氣勢，但傷感欠奉。這隻歌的傷感是關鍵，要唱出來較易表達。其實鋼琴可以做到，只是演譯的人卻不是這樣想。

我則推薦梅艷芳的 『似水流年』，同是去世的歌手，好有 « 追憶逝水年華 » 的感覺，想看請去 YOUTUBE。
