To encourage the conversion of diesel taxis into the cleaner liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) taxis, a cash grant scheme was introduced. Each eligible taxi owner is entitled to a maximum of $40,000. The scheme has been completed at the end of 2004 and over 99% of the taxis have been converted into LPG vehicles.
