Story: This story is based on one of the best-selling illustrated storybooks in Asia -- Turn Left, Turn Right by Jimmy Liao.

John Liu (Takeshi Kaneshiro) is an aspiring violinist who is flocked by women like bees to honey because of his handsome face. However what he really wants is to meet someone special who appreciates his violin performance. Eve Choi (Gigi Leung) is a professional translator whose true passion is translating love poems, but for work she is stuck in translating cheesy novels and cheap thrillers which make her feel tense and frightened. Living in different units of the same apartment building and separated by one thin wall, they two have brushed shoulders in crowd hundreds times, but somehow their paths never really cross.

One day, while walking around a circular fountain in the park, they finally bump into each other. Just like a pair of long-lost lovers, John and Eve spend a beautiful afternoon together. A sudden shower cuts the encounter short. They exchange phone numbers and quickly run home. Yet fate plays a cruel joke on them, the rain has soaked through their precious scrap of paper and the phone numbers are hopelessly smudged…

Review: Life is full of surprises; even two parallel lines may one day meet. This movie uses these words to describe the mystery destiny of our life, and tries to show us a romantic story which might be happening everyday around us. It is a story for the people who are destined to meet each other.

The illustrated storybook drawer Jimmy’s early thoughts were very simple. He showed us the relationship between the man and woman, how they passed each other, how they paced back and forth, how they tried to find the answer, and how they finally met. The book gives us a very deep lonely and heavy constrains feeling, and points us the weakness we get on our way to meet the only one in our whole life. But for making the movie more plentiful, the script writer added two other characters, so the movie becomes much funnier to watch. However, we are not sure if these changes are the good or not. For box office result, making something that fit everyone’s enjoy is necessary, and for sure this is a romantic comedy, not s serious drama. In my personal point of view, it has greatly damaged the significance of the story. The ending is another weak point, the event that would finally bring the two main characters together was really out of place, not suitable with the whole story before, and it really seems a bit hasty. Maybe the director wanted to show us what a miracle was.

"They're both convinced; that a sudden passion joined them. Such certainty is beautiful, but uncertainty is more beautiful still. "-- This is a part from poem "Love at First Sight" which written by Wislawa Szymborska, a Poland female poet. It appears several times in the movie and in fact is the clue between the two main characters. They both like this poem and feel sympathetic chord. This movie was the second cooperation of Takeshi and Gigi in one movie, but they make us believe that their souls are half of each other and they fall in love at the first moment, just like in the poem.
