with same amount of material, circular shape make largest volume (you can proof this by simple calculas), it is important for a continer, which you want to hold something (more thing) with it
in a pressurized CIRCULAR container, the stress in every point around the circumference is identicle, hence there is no concentration of stress and make it less easy to fail (break or burst)
