Hi! I'm year one college student in Vancouver and planning to transfer to second year commerce at UBC this September. Large amount of students in my college, which has a pretty high reputation, are in University Transfer Program which means you earn the first year's and second year's credits in a college and then transfer them to a university to finish your third year and fourth year. After completing four years of study, you will get a degree from the university instead of the previous college. Also, you will get a diploma (2 years) from that college. As a result, you will get one diploma from the college and one degree from the university when you complete your four years of study.
I'm now studying in Vancouver, Canada.
I graduated from high school in Guangdong (Canton) and English was my major at that time. Do you know NCEE (高考) in China? I got 771 out of 900.
Well, it depends on your personality. I'm not a person who like going pub/club and I think the clubs here in Vancouver is not that safe since murder and fighting do happen. It's easier for me to make Chinese friends since we have the same cultural background. In the cafeteria, you can see students from different countries sit with the friends who can speak the same mother tongue. Anyway, people in Vancouver are very nice because Vancouver is a multicultural metropolis.
As for me, not really... I don't have such experience.
General high school. Nothing special.
Why?
Absolutely! Studying abroad was my dream. I looked forward to it when I was in elementary school. First, I can make friends from different countries and experience different culture. I have friends from HK, Macau, Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, Switzerland, Philippines, Indonesia, Venezuela and so on. If you join some clubs or socities, you will make even more friends. Second, I like the foreign education system because it's well-organized and flexible, which is good for students who have part-time jobs. Besides, I like the credit system which is very flexible. As long as you get all the credits, you are done! Third, I've become more independent. Studying abroad means I have to take care of myself, no matter from cooking to washing dishes, or from opening a bank account to renting a house/apartment. Through my daily life, I learnt a lot.
For me, I could because I asked my parents to send me to a boarding school when I was 8 years old (still don't know why). I'm pretty adaptive and independent.
Studying abroad is really a good experience in my life and I know I'm lucky enough to have this opportunity. Therefore, I try my best to strive for a better future and then provide a much better life for my parents since they've been investing so much on me and my brother. Thank you so much, Dad & Mom!
The above is my experience. Hope they help. Good luck!
