Skeptic and cynic are different.

A skeptic is someone who is reluctant to believe; a cynic is someone who refuses to believe.

A skeptic is someone who once believed and was disappointed and hurt; a cynic is someone who once believed and was betrayed and traumatized.

Deep inside all skeptics and most cynics is an optimist that aches to believe again but do it safely without fear of disappointment, hurt, betrayal or trauma.
