you cannot remove the calculus off your teeth by yourself. Only a dentist or hygieneist can remove it by using dental instrument. If you scare the dentist you can change to new dentist and also you can tell your friends or family to accompany you to the appointment that way you will not feel scared.

Find a new dentist. My dentist numbs me up before she starts the cleaning and scraping. If you are being hurt to the point where you are not going, your dentist is not doing you any good. Call around and see if you can find someone who will accommodate your pain. You cannot get the build up and plaque off your teeth on your own. Trust me, I've tried and had to give it up. Hope this helps!!!

First, stop drinking soda. All soda is, is sugar water with flavoring and feeds bacteria in your mouth.

Second, start drinking fruit juices with vitamin C. The sugar in fruit juice is in a more natural form (if you avoid high fructose corn syrup) that the body can use, and the vitamin C helps keep bacterial growth to a minimum. Vitamin C also helps to heal gums and fight Gingivitis.

I've also heard that vitamin E and dark chocolate can help to reduce the growth or formation of plaque on your teeth as well. Vitamin E is a little harder to find in drinks, but if you eat high fiber foods, or food with whole grains may contain more vitamin E. Dark chocolate contains oils and chemicals that protect the surface of your teeth. It has to be dark chocolate, because milk chocolate often has more sugar in it.

Lastly, using an electric/sonic toothbrush helps break loose plaque and guck on your teeth.

But here's the thing, if you already have harden plaque on your teeth, about the only way to get that stuff off now is to have it scraped off! There's no way to avoid it, now! The best thing you can do is to do the above AFTER you have your teeth cleaned, and you still need to brush regularly.

ok, here is what you do...if you truly have tarter, then you can do one of two things. first of all, get another dentist.

option 1.

buy some enzyme toothpaste for dogs or cats. here is a good one:

http://www.discountpetdrugs.com/ento39.html

(i have done this years ago and i can tell tell you get the malt flavor and not poultry, and it still ain't tasty)

also get some spray that is supposed to loosen up the tater first. i recommend it:

you can also get these items at your local veterinarian

order yourself an ionic toothbrush and some neydent:

http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=811537

you can also get an ionic toothbrush on ebay (do not get sonic). Neydent has to be ordered overseas, but i have ordered it there for 20 years, no big deal, no prescription needed just fill out the form.

Ok, now, you take the spray and swish it around a while. they wait 5 minutes. take out your trusty dog paste and put some all over your teeth, be liberal. let it sit at least 5 minutes, 10 if you have a lot of build up. now, take your ionic toothbrush (make sure you have water on it and on your thumb where the metalon the handle is) and put more doggy toothpaste on it and brush away. you should brush sort of hard, but not too hard. you are going to have to brush slightly under the gum line and your teeth should bleed. don't brush too hard there, a little more gentle, use your best judgment. brush for 5 minutes at least. don't swallow any (i know, who'd want to). don't rinse for a half hour. repeat this 2 or 3 times until the tarter and plaque is gone. you don't want to use it often, because it makes the teeth sensitive. they will go back to normal later. so for mantenance, you can use it every few months.

option 2.

go to the dentist and have them cleaned (you will probably need a deep cleaning). after that, use the neydent toothpaste and ionic toothbrush; those two items will keep your mouth and teeth cleaner than anything on the market .

if you choose option 1. it will definitely keep you thinking more about taking better care of your teeth in the future.

great product I just started using last May
called ToothSoap - but first - a little history

in Oct 2005 - went to dentist and was told I had 4 cavities ( @ $185 each!) - so I knew we would be moving - and would wait till I got insurance at the new job!

Delayed getting an appointment and finally got in JAN 2007
and when they examined my teeth - NO cavities! GONE!

my teeth had re-enameled from the calcium in my body!

I brush twice a day (sometimes once) and eat a lot of salads

the Toothsoap is about $20 a jar (compared to $700+ for my cavities) - and it tastes LIKE SOAP! so keep it away from the 'salty' tasting part of your tongue and DO NOT swallow this stuff! Just keep it forward in your mouth.

Regular toothpaste has glycerin and other things that put a shell up around your teeth where they cannot re-enamel
Just had a friend start yesterday at work - and she cannot believe how her teeth feel - she asked me when I use toothpaste - I told her I threw out 1/2 a tube - bye bye

Now - you still need to floss below the gum line -
but you will be surprised how the tartar and plaque meet
their match -

best of luck - and by the way - a jar is supposed to last 2 people 3 months

my jar began May 1, 2006, - and I use it solo
- I still have 1/3 left!

watch your diet. Eat less to no sugar (this can cause the furry stuff to form on your teeth) include healthy foods and make sure you brush morning and night before bed and floss.

You may want to do some warm water and salt rinses, this could help your gums. You're in pain because your gums are tender and soft, so when you get the professional scale and clean, this can be painful and cause bleeding.

It's odd that you cry with this and the dentist doesn't seem to do a thing? Is she not aware that there are problems here? you should not be in that much pain. I'd suggest going to another dentist and explaining this problem. You may have a gum problem.

Brush twice a day and you won't have to deal with this.

If you floss daily and brush teeth twice daily you can reduce plaque build up. Less plaque means less pain at dentist.
